The activities

Sanlorenzo Foundation has decided to focus on and bet on the determination and brilliant ideas of the new generation, financing courageous and capable young people to submit their projects of study, work, and entrepreneurial initiatives linked to the sea and the territories of the Italian minor islands.

“A Sail for the Heart” returns to bring prevention where it is hardest to reach: Italy’s small islands. From March to October 2026, the sailing boat Serena will travel across the Tyrrhenian Sea, turning into a floating medical clinic.
A fund supporting families living on Elba Island with children under 16 who need to travel to the mainland for medical visits or hospital treatment not available on the island.

Scholarship holders

Francesca Lamonica

Through anthropological methodology, Francesca intends to explore the relationships between school, culture, and education in Lampedusa.
The research aims to actively involve the local community, families, and teaching staff in identifying critical issues and opportunities that affect growth in Lampedusa and the educational contexts in which people’s growth occurs and which we can define as educating communities.
The project is implemented in partnership with Fondazione Cecilia Gilardi

Beatrice Sciarrillo

Writing has always been a part of Beatrice’s world, who since childhood has brought countless stories and tales to life with her tireless pen.
Thanks to the support of the Sanlorenzo Foundation, Beatrice will have the opportunity to live in Rome and attend a master’s program in creative writing, so she can develop her skills and realize her dream of writing a novel!

Edward Casini

Great ambition and spirit of initiative are the qualities that distinguish Edoardo, a bright young man who is confident that each of our actions can make a difference in improving society!
Thanks to the support of the Sanlorenzo Foundation, Edoardo will be able to attend the course in Economics and Managment at Oxford University, so he can get the best education possible and return to Italy to fulfill his dream: to help young Italians discover and seize all the opportunities our country has to offer!

Silvia Ruggeri

Silvia will conduct anthropological research on built and lived space in Lampedusa.
She will work with the island’s inhabitants around a variety of themes: rootedness to the territory and the perception of community, the presence of migrant people, the presence and absence of the state, and finally needs, necessities and imaginaries of the future.
The result will be an account of the island from the voices of its inhabitants.
The purpose of the research is to give voice in a broad, structured and complex way to those who inhabit the territories affected by incoming migration processes, so that we can imagine trajectories of coexistence that are for everyone and all.

Simone Zambelli

Simone’s project consists of cataloging, studying and enhancing the rock palmenti rupestri of Ischia, or ancient structures for transforming grapes into wine, through the creation of ad hoc tourist routes.
The aim, in addition to the archaeological one of getting to know these structures better on a typological and topographical level, is to enhance the island’s viticultural history by bringing to the attention of the general public these productive structures dug into the rock, also with a view to a hoped-for greater protection, which are now fully part of Ischia’s agrarian landscape.

Vincenzo de Milato

Vincenzo’s project is aimed at collecting and analyzing data on the occurrence of different cetacean species in the waters facing the Tremiti Islands and Giglio Island.
Cetaceans are key species within an ecosystem, whose presence determines the balance among other species and of the entire ecosystem, and can therefore be used as bioindicators, that is, as indicators of the health of the ecosystem itself.
