“A Sail for the Heart” is a cardiovascular prevention campaign promoted by the Cardioteam Foundation and the Sanlorenzo Foundation.
For the third consecutive year, the project brings healthcare prevention services to Italy’s small islands—extraordinary places that are often limited in access to medical care.
From March to October 2026, a sailing boat will travel across the Tyrrhenian Sea, transforming into a floating clinic and stopping at several islands, from Elba to Ponza, Ischia to the Aeolian Islands, as well as Pantelleria, Lampedusa, and Sardinia.
The project
On board, a team of doctors and echocardiography specialists will provide free Three-Level Screening, a prevention model that combines heart and brain health.
The examinations include:
- Echocardiogram, to assess the structure and function of the heart
- Carotid echo-color Doppler, to analyze blood flow and assess stroke risk
The screenings are aimed at people aged 50 to 75 and are accompanied by guidance on healthy lifestyles and prevention.
How to participate
The screenings are free of charge and available by appointment. The schedule of stops is published in the days leading up to the boat’s arrival on each island.
