In April, the heart screening campaign ‘Una Vela per il Cuore‘ (A Sail for Heart Health) will kick off, promoted by Cardioteam Foundation, which has always been dedicated to cardiovascular prevention.
This year, with the support of the Sanlorenzo Foundation, co-promoter of the initiative, the prevention campaign will focus on the smaller Italian islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea, where free cardiovascular screenings will be offered to residents. The goal is to bring healthcare services to areas where access to preventive medicine is limited.
The involvement of the Sanlorenzo Foundation, established to support the communities of the small Mediterranean islands, represents a significant step towards promoting health in these isolated areas, which often suffer from shortages in essential services.
The campaign, running from April to November, will visit 13 Italian islands, from Liguria to Sicily, bringing the culture of prevention through free echocardiograms. The 2025 stops include: Elba Island (Porto Ferraio), Maddalena Island (Cala Gavetta), Sant’Antioco (Carloforte), Egadi Islands (Favignana), Ustica, Aeolian Islands (Salina, Lipari, Vulcano), Ischia Island, Ventotene Island, Ponza Island, Giglio Island, Elba Island (Marina di Campo), and Capraia.
All residents aged between 50 and 75 who participate in the project will receive the results of their echocardiogram, along with a brochure containing information on healthy lifestyles to prevent heart attacks and strokes.
The journey’s main feature will be “Serena Cardioteam”, a 13-meter sailboat designed for both speed and comfort, which will host the onboard heart screenings.
