The Italian islands are characterized by “pocket beaches,” small sandy beaches located between rocky promontories or man-made structures, valued for their beauty and ecological importance. However, these environments are highly vulnerable due to the limited and discontinuous sediment supply from the islands’ inland areas, a vulnerability that will increase with sea level rise caused by climate change. Allegra’s project aims to study the sedimentological and morphological response of these beaches to storm and post-storm cycles, in order to predict their future evolution in a context of increasing human impact. The project is carried out in partnership with the Fondazione Cecilia Gilardi.
